In this session, Christopher will share his journey on how he came to develop a portfolio-based, collaborative assessment model with students and offer resources that can help anyone start. Involving students in the development of classroom assessment and giving them agency over their learning can provide the tools the next generation needs to change the world. Working with students under the restrictions of a traditional system, we have created an “ungrading” model using portfolios that shelters students from the negative impact of graded assessments with a focus on self-assessment, growth, and encouraging students to chart their own paths through learning.
